Occupational Functional Integrity Testing

AmHealth/EDPM offers a unique medical procedure of merging the opinions of vocational medicine and the precision of standardized medical screening -- known as Occupational Functional Integrity Testing.  This comprehensive, cost-effective and easy to understand test meets standards set by the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The testing process, which takes approximately one hour, simultaneously measures an

individual's internal body functions and his or her ability to perform essential work

tasks.  Following a comprehensive medical history interview, the individual is examined

by a certified physician to determine if there are any conditions (hypertension or

existing injury, etc.) that would preclude continuation of testing.

Next, the individual performs a series of time

procedures that simulate the work environment

specified in his or her job description.  Postural

  maneuvers (bending, crouching, climbing, etc.)

and the lifting of weights through specified ranges

of motion are measured.  In addition, manual

dexterity of both   dominant and non-dominant

  hands is measured.

Throughout these procedures, blood pressure and

heart rate are monitored.  This provides not only a

profile of the individual's physiological response to

the testing, but can also alert the staff immediately

if problems should arise.  Following completion of

these procedures, the individual's hearing and vision

are tested.  Pulmonary function evaluation, drug

screening and other optional procedures may be

  incorporated into the system.

Data obtained from this procedure is transmitted to each employer less than one week

from the initial evaluation.  Basic reports include the patient's medical history, the

results of the physician's physical examination and a one-page summary showing how

the individual ranks in each area of testing when compared to the general population.

Occupational Functional Integrity Testing can assure that new employees have the

physical capacity to perform the jobs for which they were hired.  Additionally, it can

help management establish a baseline of the existing workforce, thereby helping in

setting company policies and determining training and hiring practices.
