Types of Background Checks
EDPM searches public records
from all 3300+ county courthouses in the United
States along with 30 statewide
repositories (for statewide searches) providing both
felony and/or misdemeanor access. We
generally search individual county courts
where the applicant resides and/or works, or as
requested by the client.
This product
is available in the following formats: County, State and Federal.
County courts
are the most comprehensive source of information for criminal activity. County
search results provide criminal charges, dates, sentencing and disposition, for
felonies and/or misdemeanors in the county seat court of the requested
jurisdiction. Detailed dockets and supporting information are also available.

Statewide
repositories vary in detail and scope of information for each state. Data
available may reflect arrest information obtained by police departments, county
cases forwarded from local courts, or other criminal data housed by the state.
Statewide turn-around times vary by state
Federal search
results will provide information on criminal activity that occurred outside
state or local jurisdiction and was prosecuted at the district court level.
Examples of criminal activity include kidnapping, drug trafficking, interstate
transportation of stolen goods, bank robbery, and embezzlement.

NATIONAL CRIMINAL SCAN
EDPM searches
over 128 million records in 39 states. This is an effective tool to screen
applicants who
have lived in numerous locations or whose previous positions required
travel across
state lines. This service is recommended as a supplemental search to
criminal
background screening to identify criminal activity in jurisdictions outside of
current and
previous residence and employment geographical locations.

SOCIAL SECURITY / NAME TRACE
Recommended for all applicants, this search reveals names associated with a
social
security
number, past and present addresses, and fraudulent use of social security
numbers.
Results may be used to cross reference addresses supplied by applicant to
insure the
integrity of the information on the job application or resume. The past
addresses
returned guarantee a more complete criminal background search.

CREDIT
REPORT
Recommended for all
positions that involve access to cash, expensive equipment, or
financial record
keeping. This service provides the employer insight to the applicant’s
level of
fiduciary responsibility.
Average

Requirements: Applicant Social Security Number, First Name, Middle Initial, Last
Name, and Address. Applicants are required to sign a release.
WORKERS’ COMPENSATION HISTORY
A Workers’ Compensation report provides a history of the
applicant's work related
injuries filed by the employer. Searches assist employers in
placing new hires in
positions suited to their physical abilities. Reports usually
include claim information,
injury type, date, and case number. EDPM strictly
adheres to the provisions of the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). An applicant must
have been given a
“conditional offer of employment” prior to executing a Workers’
Compensation search.

MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS
This screen is
highly recommended for all positions that may require the use of a motor
vehicle. In some states, convictions of driving under the influence of drugs or
alcohol
are not revealed on the criminal record and are placed on the MVR
record. Our Motor
Vehicle Reports include such items as DUI arrests and
convictions, reckless behavior,
moving violations, suspensions and revocations.
Additionally, they outline the type of
license approved and any restrictions
to that license. EDPM adheres to guidelines set
forth by the Driver's Privacy
Protection Policy Act (DPPA).

State, License Number, and Date of Birth. A signed release form is
required.
PERSONAL REFERENCES
Recommended for all applicants. EDPM can save employers time and money
by
checking personal references. In addition to ending countless
rounds of phone calls and
long distance bills, employers receive added legal
protection under the Fair Credit
Reporting Act (FCRA).
Key questions
to references will address the following: dependability, adaptability,
written and
verbal communication, learning abilities, positive qualities, and areas for
development.
The reference will have an opportunity to offer additional comments
regarding the
applicant.

MILITARY SERVICE VERIFICATION
This
service is recommended for all applicants stating military service on job
application
or resume.
This service is unique in that it provides information that is not normally
found in
employment and education screenings. This report provides such details as
dates of
service, rank, pay, decorations and medals, performance, and reason for
discharge.
EDPM is one of
the few screening companies that offers detailed reports regarding
military
service.
Average
turn-around time is 1 - 3 business days with the exception of required mailings.
Requirements:
First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name, Data of Birth, Military Branch
and
Location. Release may be required.
CIVIL COURT RECORDS
Recommended for medical professionals, management, general contractors,
outsourced
professionals, and service providers such as cleaning services, daycare
providers, and
general maintenance providers.
Civil Court
Records reveals if a person or company is involved in non-criminal lawsuits
including
litigation for tort, contract, or real estate disputes. The data comes directly
from the
individual counties and contains filings of court cases containing all
plaintiffs,
defendants,
case numbers, date of filings, and judgment. Ability to search lower courts
for cases
generally ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 and/or higher courts for cases
exceeding
these dollar amounts.

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE SANCTIONS
Recommended
for all health care employees. EDPM conducts a query with the
Department of
Health & Human Services which provides information on individuals who
have been
convicted of Medicaid or Medicare fraud.

Requirements:

EDUCATION CONFIRMATION
Recommended for
all applicants. Level of education is the most common item falsified
on a job
application or resume.
EDPM verifies
academic credentials at all institutions including high school, college,
and technical
and trade schools. This service provides verification of attendance,
degrees,
course certifications, GPA's, honors, course of study, and dates attended.
Average
turn-around time is 1 - 3 business days (excluding school holidays).
Requirements for education
confirmation are: applicant first name, middle initial, last
name, maiden name
if applicable, date of birth, social security number, institution
name, state,
years attended and degree received. A written release is often
required.
EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION
Recommended
for all applicants due to the fact that employment history is often
embellished.
EDPM will verify present and past employment, including wages, dates of
employment,
job title and responsibilities. The results also provide information on work
habits,
interaction with others, disciplinary actions, attendance, and eligibility for
re-
hire.

CREDENTIALS AND LICENSES
Recommended
for all applicants applying for positions requiring professional licenses
and for positions
requiring skills that may be listed as credentials on resumes or job
applications.
This service
verifies the qualifications and the integrity of the applicant by confirming
credentials and licenses stated on job application or resume are correct.
Examples i
nclude FAA license, DVM, RN, CPN, CPA, CNE,
CPR, etc. Returned results include
dates and
current status of licenses and credentials.

Recommended
for all applicants that will interact with children, elderly, patients, or
others, in a position of trust. This includes counselors, instructors, medical
professionals, and residential service providers.
This service
is available in 32 states and provides information regarding convictions of
any sexual
assault, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact,
and/or
kidnapping.
